Making tea with a Yixing pot is one of the most pleasing ways of brewing gongfu tea. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing but they produce a taste that is richer and smoother than what is possible with normal glass, porcelain or ceramic teaware.
Yixing clay reacts immediately with the tea to create a different taste and complexity compared to other brewing devices. A new yixing pot will smell and taste more like “raw clay”. While after many sessions it will add a complexity of flavors given by all the tea’s it has brewed. Still, fresh out of the box the yixing clay is superior for most tea types.
